Neeva: How it all started
I was born and raised in an eat-all and eat-as-much-as-you-can type of family... I've always had a love for food, and I still do - only that now I learned how to enjoy food in much more balanced and healthier way!
Up until the age of 40, I was always over-weight and constantly putting myself through a roller-coaster of endless diets. After a lifetime of living in this unbalanced way, everything caught up with me and I found out that I had a serious thyroid disfunction. This was the wake-up call I needed in order to change my lifestyle once and for all. After refusing to take pills prescribed by doctors and instead taking my health into my own hands through changing my eating habits, I've regained my health and full function of my thyroid. Now, I have happily made it my mission and decided to dedicate my life to raising awareness about what it really means to lead a healthy lifestyle.
In wanting to learn as much as I can in order to share my knowledge, I took part in Matthew Kenney's Institute in Los Angeles to study holistic, plant-based nutrition, as well as became a certified Yoga instructor as a means of achieving a full understanding as to what leading a whole and balanced life means.
INNERGY's founder, Neeva, is a holistic nutritionist, the author of 'Sacred Eating',
a yoga teacher and a mother of 4.
I continued to educate myself through reading hundreds of articles and studies about the health industry in trying to piece together the connection between nutrition and fitness along with the effects they have on our physical and mental health in efforts to understand how to connect the two in the most fulfilling way possible.
A big part of my mission was to share my knowledge with the people I interact with on a daily basis; I was surprised to learn that many were suffering from health deficits of all sorts. From constant migraines and eczema to heart disease and cancer, I was shocked to learn how many people were constantly suffering from conditions and diseases that prevented them from living their lives to the fullest. Right then and there, I vowed to myself that I would make it a priority to detect what foods can help treat and prevent all sorts of conditions and diseases so that I could help my friends and family rid themselves of these symptoms that were slowing them down.
WORKSHOPS & LECTURES
The word YOGA means unity: body and mind, heaven and earth, you and the people around you, you and the divine; therefor, in my classes I emphasize on both physical and spiritual practices. Each and every yoga class contain both physical workout as well as a guided meditation with special intention for the class.
Having a great yoga body is just one more benefit of the yoga practice; the real benefits are a clear mind, relaxed soul, healthy body and over all: a peace of mind.
I took my first Yoga class back in 2003. One of my friends came back from India and started to offer yoga classes to everyone, and so my first class was a late night one – we had candlelight and warm blankets for a very long Shavasana (corpse pose). It was the first time in my life when I was completely calm. I was hooked!
The years that came after this first class were filled with many more yoga classes and workshops. I learned a lot about meditations and different yoga styles, until the point of taking a yoga teacher-training course at Yoga Tree and become a certified yoga teacher (2012).
